Everyday Ethics: Know the Code – March 2109

On its website, C.A.R. publishes the name and photo of each California REALTOR® who has been found in violation of the Code of Ethics and has been disciplined with a letter of reprimand, a fine, a suspension, or an expulsion. How can you avoid being published on the website? The only solution is to “Know the Code” – that is, you must know all of the Articles of the Code of Ethics and how each Article relates to real-world situations. This year, C.A.R. Staff Attorney Brian Polinsky will present a five-part webinar series called “Know the Code,” which will describe and explain actual cases C.A.R. has published on its website in order to reveal how the Code of Ethics applies in practice. The webinars will cover the underlying facts of each published case and will provide the basis for the hearing panel’s decision finding the REALTOR® in violation of the Code. Then, there will be a discussion of what the REALTOR® in each case could have done to avoid the violation.
