SB 91 – Eviction Moratorium Extension and State Rental Assistance Program
The original COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act allowed a tenant negatively impacted by COVID-19 to avoid eviction for nonpayment of rent. The law was set to expire at the end of January 2021. In late January, the governor signed Senate Bill 91 which extended the protections of the Tenant Relief Act until June 30, 2021. The bill also extended the requirement that residential rentals can only be terminated for just cause, clarified when landlords can bring suit to recover unpaid Covid-19 rental debt and established parameters for rental assistance programs.
